Patterns, textures, simple geometry all combine to create something magical in quilts. My great grandmother must have made hundreds of quilts in her lifetime. She sewed and knitted for her children, and then for their children. She continued sewing aprons and knitting mittens and slippers for her great grandchildren too. I remember meeting many of my sixty two second cousins at her 100th birthday party! Can you imagine…63 great grandchildren! We all received mittens and slipper socks each year for Christmas, and her quilts now grace three bedrooms in my house. Needless to say, she was an inspiration to me. I am still amazed with all she accomplished in her lifetime. My most recent series of panels entitled, “Inline Quilting Square Blocks” is loosely based upon some of the fabrics in her quilts, and the series is dedicated to her memory.
Quilts as inspiration
